  1. Today has been a rough day. The MRI results were not as great as we had hoped for. The MRI showed that Cooper has had a stroke. This is a set back and of course is so very hard to hear. But please continue to pray. Cooper needs your prayers more than ever. The doctors tell us Cooper’s youth is his greatest advantage right now. We know our God is the Great Physician and we believe in the healing power of prayer. Please pray more than ever for Cooper and his recovery. They will begin to decrease his sedation soon and will begin to test to see how Cooper responds neurologically. Specifically pray for calmness for Cooper as he comes out of such a deep sleep. Pray that whatever issues we find as he wakes can be rehabilitated. As always, we feel your love and prayers. We know God has got Cooper in his hands. Please DON’T STOP PRAYING

  2. Winning eight titles in *any* classification is an amazing feat, and makes you a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Period. Winning state titles is harder the larger the classification, especially for an East Texas program vs. large metros. John King is the greatest coach in Longview history, and one of the best in the state of Texas. Scott Surratt is the greatest coach in Carthage history, and one of the best in the state of Texas. Both men, and both programs, can be great without diminishing the other.

  3. If ya'll think any single fanbase could stomach Longview, Carthage, and Gilmer fanbases all in one season...... lawd Jesus.... no... JUST NO. There isn't enough Xanax in existence.

  4. Not a Longhorn fan, but I honestly believe Texas played well. Gary Patterson absolutely owned Bill O'Brien at times.

  5. Best of luck to all three teams in this thread!!! LOL! In all seriousness, I think this game is a good measuring stick for Carthage and Marshall. The outcome will not determine either teams' future, but it will show each team where they are at. I am excited for it. I am also excited for Longview's season! Serious talent over there that I think is going to do great things. I think Coach King is a very good football coach. I haven't paid enough attention to him to know just how good he is. Also, I used to work with Taylor Tatum's dad, so I am pulling especially hard for them right now!

  6. I was restricted on Saturday so I haven't expressed my thoughts yet lol. So here's my take for those that care... It's hard to just pick one of those options, but I think it's a mix between 1 and 2. And option 1 isn't that Bama is bad, but they played really bad on Saturday. I don't think I've seen a more undisciplined Nick Saban team, like ever. And a lot of that can be credited to a few things.... A) the environment. DKR was absolutely nuts. See Will Anderson's comments B) Sark being in his bag with Quinn C) Texas being a lot better than they (as in Bama, and I guess everyone else) expected. I said it Saturday, but out of the 15 penalties Bama was called for, you can maybe pick up one or two, but the rest were blatant. I mean offsides, facemasks, PI's, they weren't ticky tack calls. It was Bama straight up making mental mistakes. While Texas was extremely disciplined for the most part. This Saturday against UTSA will be the answer to the second option. How does UT bounce back from this and move forward? I certainly think they have the talent and coaching to make it to Dallas and possibly win the Big 12, but I've said it from day 1, I want to see them mentally tough and see how they handle adversity/a loss. Realistically, they had plenty of opportunities to win that game and it doesn't involve blaming the refs. But I do think the Bama game gave them some confidence that they can compete with not just one of the best teams, but the best program in college football. Like Sark said, this doesn't define them or determine their trajectory for the rest of the season. The goals are still on the table and Saturday showed that they can get there, but will they have the fortitude to get there, is the real question imo.

  7. Please join us in praying for Cooper Reid who suffered a head injury in last night's homecoming football game. We believe in the power of prayer! We are claiming Coopers full recovery and believing that our God, the Greatest Physician will heal Cooper and be fully glorified through this

  10. Not a Texas fan either. I would say that Bama played what I think will be their worst game this season, but a lot of that is because Texas had a great plan for them. Bama wasn’t as bad as they looked, Texas isnt as good as they looked. The truth is somewhere in between. But Texas is definitely better than Alabama is bad. My preseason look on Texas was most likely 8-4 with 6-6 possible. I’d say now I view them as 9-3 with 10-2 very possible and 7-5 possible but unlikely. There’s still a lot that hinges on whether or not Card can be the guy for a few weeks.

  13. How they responds the next 2 weeks will give me all the answers I need. If they come out with the same intensity and energy as the did last Saturday week end and week out. Then the program has took a big step forward. I am tired of hearing about Alabama, its over lets move on. UTSA will bring all they got Saturday, that's all we should be focused on. If that turns out to be the case then I will feel good about this team and it's chances this year. If it turns out they are just happy about playing Bama close and reading about how good they are then we will take our usual 1 step forward and 2 step back approach

  15. The Alto Yellowjackets will renew their rivalry with the Garrison Bulldogs when they travel to Garrison this Friday; kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Jackets and Bulldogs last met in 2019 in Garrison with Alto winning 26-7. This will be the 45th time the teams have met with Garrison holding the series record 24-18-2. The Jackets defeated San Augustine on Saturday 22-8 while the Bulldogs fell (surprisingly) to Warren 25-22. Schedules and results for the 2022 season thus far: Shelbyville 48 - Alto 44 Alto 48 - West Sabine 22 Alto 22 - San Augustine 8 Garrison 35 - Hugh Springs 30 Garrison 28 - Arp 21 Warren 25 - Garrison 22 ALTO-GARRISON SERIES All-Time Record for Alto: 600 wins | 382 losses | 34 ties | 1,016 total games All-Time Record for Garrison: 548 wins | 286 losses | 13 ties | 847 total games All-Time Series Record: Garrison - 24 wins | Alto - 18 wins | 2 ties Garrison's longest winning streak vs. Alto: 5 wins in a row (1966-1970 | 1976-1987) Alto's longest winning streak vs. Garrison: 9 wins in a row (1988-1998) Current streak: Alto won 26-7 in 2019; haven’t played since. I think I am missing one year. In 1973, there was a 6-6 tie, but I can’t find any record of the year before or after 1973. We had to have played twice because of realignment. This Friday should be a good test! Both teams are 2-1. Who moves to 3-1?

Well to be honest and forthright,I am a Carthage follower, and I'm also a Lobo follower.I tend to keep up with storied programs and their prosperity.True I'm a diehard Carlisle Indians fan through and through, but I don't think king or surratt are gonna schedule carlisle anytime soon...lol..I was just making a funny about the conspiracy's with Carthage and Longview, did not mean to trip everyone up....my bad,I apologize for uttering the name of Longview with an unclean mouth.so with that being said,I shall spurn the moniker Lobo going forward, may luck be ever in their favor.

  23. Game of the week for good reason. Has the potential to be an exciting, back and forth game if both teams come prepared and execute. As a Carthage fan, I’m excited to see Marshall with Alvarez at the helm, compared to Marshall of recent memory.

  24. Let King schedule Carthage and get it over with. It's a lose lose for Longview, but could turn into a good game for both teams, regardless of classification. Meanwhile, back to the GOTW.

  25. And one of 2 first downs was a running into the kicker that gave them a first down. After rewatching, @kingwolf, can confirm they did not cross the 50. They got to the 47 on that drive that we helped with the penalty on their punt but that was as close as they got.

  31. You look around the landscape of college football and see you true freshman QBs come in and make impacts. Then you look at our scheme. If your scheme takes multiple years for a QB to learn and then they must execute it perfectly, almost robotically for it to work there’s an issue there. There’s some ego there when a HC is also the play caller on offense or defense. I can do it better. The product on the field is showing that you can’t. Darrell Dickey was the OC at Memphis under Fuente. It was a fun up tempo offense that made plays down the field and had a good rushing attack. Take the co-OC off, give him the play call job and let’s see what happens.

  32. Yep, SS said at the end of Chalk Talk that Coach Preston and Coach Alvarez are really good friends and that Alvarez is going to have Marshall rolling soon.

  33. Here's my take for what it's worth. I think Hayne's is the guy that wins you games you should win. I know that doesn't make sense given the loss this past weekend, but I can't blame him for that loss. He could have played better sure, but when you're 18 point favorites and you don't even score 18 points or you only log 7 points from your offense, it's not the quarterback. It tells me that something with the play calling is drastically off. Jimbo needs an OC or to somehow evolve his offense. You have so many explosive players. Haynes isn't great, but he's not bad where he single handedly loses games.

  34. Oh yeah. It was trolling for sure. That kinda thing is allowed (and seemingly encouraged) on this site, sadly. I don't think anyone would deny that Surratt is one of the best ever. They'd be crazy if they did.
    2 points
  35. You are technically correct. I think what he was referring to was the comment that he made about Carthage fans daring to think Surratt is one of the GOATs at this level. Which he then stated was just to elicit a response.

  38. Haynes has a back-and-forth release, while most modern QBs prefer an up-and-out release. While there is a negligible different in actual release time, a back-and-forth release can provide more of a visual cue to defenders. However, it also allows more velocity on the ball. It's structurally the same delivery he's used since high school, though his mechanics are far more compact and quicker than at Longview. I expect him to continue to tighten it as he continues to develop.

  39. That’s fine, doesn’t make my point any less valid. How would you feel about King if he’d won eight state championships for your Lobos? I do not want Longview to lose, ever. I would love for the Lobos to win at the same rate as the Bulldogs. We’d have 4A and 5A/6A locked down statewide between the two premier East Texas programs.
    2 points
  40. My opinion is this game will not be decided until into the fourth quarter. This version of the Bulldogs is not peak Carthage by any stretch, but it’s an offense that is improved over last year. When a coach wins 8 state championships and very well could’ve won two more during his run (and it’s not over yet) then yes, he’s considered in very high regard. And folks like Matt Stepp, etc have already said if he retired today he’s an immediate Texas high school football HOF member.

  41. In post-game conference, Will Anderson said it was the hardest game he has played in since he has been at Alabama the last three years. He also stated the stadium and the fans were the loudest fans he played against ever (he played at Kyle Field last year.) Kudos to UT fans!

  43. That defense has a couple of guys whose pops were monsters on the field back in the day. LB Kaden Brooks should sound familiar. His dad is Tracy Brooks, D1 LB that started on the 1997 team. Kaden is great but his little brother Kason Brooks in the '25 class is a monster. The defense next year will be even better IMO...if you can imagine that.

  44. I was looking at y'all defense and I was like damn. I love it. I don't see any weakness in your defense. I didn't see nothing but killer's. Granted y'all was playing Legacy but still I could tell y'all had nothing but go getters.

  45. I think that's what's scary about this team. Haven't really had to use Tatum/Hale...yet back to back blowouts. Tatum still has 6 TDs in that time frame though lol And defensively, although we have been amazing, we haven't even seen the best of JJ Rougley and Kaden Brooks yet.

  46. Great job jefferson you all have a good team. The kick return was called back. Our offense drove the ball 70 or so yards to score. There was only 3 offensive tds between both teams Jefferson 2 De Kalb 1. We have no excuses we just got our butts kick but I we will still be fine. Good luck jefferson the rest of the year.
